Dave Manga, owner of Outset Media and Cobble Hill Puzzle Co., recently sat down with CBC’s On the Island host, Gregor Craigie, to discuss a critical issue: What do the Canadian reciprocal tariffs mean for local businesses with U.S. ties?
The impact is real. The day these tariffs took effect, two of our trucks were already en route, costing us $20,000 in unplanned fees. While we remain committed to our long-time Canadian retail partners, it's not feasible to absorb these high tariffs on puzzles shipped from our U.S. factory. Why don't we build a puzzle factory in Canada? He answers that question in the interview!
We also don’t want to raise prices for our retailers. That’s why we’re actively exploring alternative manufacturing options in Europe to ensure a sustainable solution for Canada. In the meantime, we’re hopeful that any lull in puzzle inventory in Canada will be short-term as we work through these challenges. We really appreciate everyone's support and understanding as we find a workable solution to continue supplying customers with high-quality products.
